I'm sure they're making new habitat somewhere downstream though...

Doesn't look like I'll be getting out this weekend...Up to a foot of snow or more up in the Stone Mtn region Friday night into Saturday. Driving down I-77 would be suicidal...

I need to get crackin' on those snowflake flies though!! haha

TylerTyler Legghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05969341382871432087noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3645277547301651315.post-34624712803617996932009-12-17T20:03:30.497-05:002009-12-17T20:03:30.497-05:00Hey Tyler,

It seems that they have seen heavy rains and high water recently. Niether the park service nor the state removed the downed trees. I was told that its possible the high water has moved them. This explaines why the trout seemed less dense in the holes and why they seemed very "shut mouthed". I think a tree floating through my home would scare me too. In a few days or so the Rainbows may become more active.
I forgot to mention that I did see several Brookies on redds in the tail ends of deep pools. I fished closer to the banks just so I wouldnt desturb them.
If you brave the weather Saturday, I think you may see and awsome snow flake hatch. lol.

LanceLance Milkshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13230104803414566724noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3645277547301651315.post-13368899688231275272009-12-16T19:10:02.471-05:002009-12-16T19:10:02.471-05:00I'm sure the forest service removed the downed...I'm sure the forest service removed the downed trees. Don't know why, they've been sitting there for years. Probably was a safety issue that triggered the USFS to remove them.

The recent rain has altered some of the streams. Not total transformation, but like you said the pools are thinner and not as "full" as they used to be probably as a result of erosion dumping mud, dirt, sand, etc into the water over the last few weeks...Just my 2 cents...

TylerTyler Legghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05969341382871432087noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3645277547301651315.post-62143630193130344612009-12-16T18:11:36.034-05:002009-12-16T18:11:36.034-05:00Hey Tyler,

Im not sure what has happened up there recently though. Some big trees that where down in the river are gone. The holes seem thinner, and they are hugging the bottom. I was perplexed because I have been doing realy well up there. I dont know if they had some hard rain and it flushed the stream or what. I wouldnt throw bigger than a #16 and you cant let it drag for a second. patience is key right now.

LanceLance Milkshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13230104803414566724noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3645277547301651315.post-59106662978515068622009-12-16T14:47:40.652-05:002009-12-16T14:47:40.652-05:00Slow is the word right now. They look like they are on the bottom but very shut mouth. I did get a nice 15 incher though that rose to a dry in the swifter current. That was my first time in a few months that I havent caught 15 or more I think I ended the day with 5.

Lance

p.s. nothing flashy, go as drab and dark as you can.Lance Milkshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13230104803414566724noreply@blogger.com
